To conclude the series of activities undertaken in the context of the project "Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in the Labour Market in the Arab region", implemented in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO), ESCWA is holding a final regional meeting. The meeting aims at presenting the experiences of countries and discussing the lessons learned and the successful actions adopted by Arab countries to reduce the legislative gaps and operational challenges that hinder the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the labour market.
The meeting discusses the inclusive employment policy in the Arab region in accordance with Article 27 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). It also reviews the results of the analysis of the add-on modules designed to measure barriers that prevent persons with disabilities from entering the labour market, based on labour force surveys conducted in selected Arab countries. It features the launch of a network of national experts from ministries, government institutions, and organizations of persons with disabilities who participated in the project's activities, in addition to experts on disability and employment issues from ESCWA and ILO.
Participants include project’s focal points and experts in disability issues from the Ministries of Labour and Social Affairs and other relevant government institutions, in addition to stakeholders representing organizations of persons with disabilities and members of the Intersessional Group of Experts on Disability.
