The Arab Sustainable Development Report (ASDR) is a quadrennial flagship publication produced by ESCWA, in collaboration with other United Nations entities working in the Arab region. The ASDR 2024 delves into different SDG policy areas to identify opportunities for more effective policies and promising interventions. This side event at the 5th Arab Sustainable Development Week focuses on two of them as entry points:
1. The extent to which legal frameworks enable more robust policies—where do we see this in the Arab region, why and why not?
2. The extent to which the institutional set-up enables multi-sectoral policymaking and multi-stakeholder engagement—where are the (missed) opportunities?
The session considers these two areas in relation to regional developmental priorities, including economic planning, gender equality and food security, and focuses on the institutional and policy frameworks as a main concern.
