ESCWA’s cluster 6 held the third round of the socio economic dialogue on recovery in Yemen. The two-day meeting was held on 19-20 July 2023 in Amman, Jordan. The socio economic dialogue on recovery in Yemen is part of ESCWA’s initiative “Yemen Vision for Recovery and Development” and serves a platform that brings together Yemeni experts from different backgrounds to develop a vision for recovery for Yemen. The vision shall function as a long-term blueprint for recovery and development that will aim for transitioning Yemen from the state of conflict into development.

In this round of dialogue, participants engaged in discussions to determine strategies for implementing recovery vision priorities, identify recovery enablers and challenges and identify performance indicators for all recovery priorities. In addition, participants discussed the initial draft of the recovery vision.

The discussions were informed by the outcomes of the first and second rounds of the technical socioeconomic dialogue on recovery and development held on 28-29 November 2022 in Amman, Jordan, and 15-16 March 2023 in Cairo, Egypt, in which several milestones towards developing a vision for recovery and development were achieved. These milestones included building consensus on the guiding principles for recovery that ensure sustainability, inclusivity and prevention of relapse into conflict, discussing situational reports focusing on challenges in: economic development and sustainability, social cohesion, governance, institutional infrastructure and rule of law, and environment and resource management, and identifying goals, priorities and strategies of the recovery vision.
