The Intersessional Working Group of Experts on Disability of ESCWA is holding its ninth annual meeting over two days. The first day includes focal points on disability in member countries to address the following issues:
- Protecting persons with disabilities in times of war and crisis;
- Strengthening the role of national councils and mechanisms to promote the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in the Arab region;
- Sharing updates on current activities between ESCWA and member States and discussing the proposed action plan for 2025;
- Discussing the challenges facing the employment of persons with mental disabilities and proposed solutions.
The second day includes representatives of organizations of persons with disabilities participating in a panel discussion on the challenges facing the transition towards independent living for persons with disabilities and the role of Governments in this context.
