On 29 and 30 March, ESCWA and the Ministry of Social Development in the Sudan organized a workshop to discuss the development of the strategic plan for persons with disabilities and their needs as well as ways to include them in the national social protection strategy.
More than 40 participants from all relevant authorities and ministries, as well as representatives of national federations of all types of disabilities attended the workshop. ESCWA stressed the need for coordination and integration between the role of relevant ministries at the local level to implement the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities on the ground.
The workshop focused on the need to develop a plan of support during emergencies and crises, and to involve persons with all types of disabilities when developing relevant national plans and policies.
