In the context of the review process of Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA), ESCWA, in partnership with Arab States Regional Office of the United Nations Population Fund, is organizing a regional review conference to assess progress and identify gaps in MIPAA implementation across the Arab region. The conference provides a peer learning platform for member countries to present their success stories and share their respective challenges. It is an opportunity for participants to discuss the regional report prepared by ESCWA, which synthesizes inputs from Arab countries, national and regional review reports, and highlights major trends and developments witnessed in the region since the last review in 2017.

The conference gathers high level representatives of governmental institutions, in addition to parliamentarians, representatives of civil society organizations, regional organizations, United Nations agencies, academics, experts and other stakeholders.

The outcome document summarizing the key messages emanating from the conference, together with the finalized regional review report, feed into the Secretary General's report on the MIPAA review process which will be presented to the Commission on Social Development in February 2023.
