Climate Change and migration in the Arab region

The Arab region is witnessing complex patterns and trends in migration affecting millions of people. Given that climate change is an increasingly potent driver of migration, the Issue Based Coalition on Migration in the Arab region (IBC/M), co-convened by ESCWA, IOM, the League of Arab States (LAS) and ILO, organized on 24 and 25 October a regional dialogue on the climate change and migration nexus in the Arab region.

Participants discussed the repercussions of climate change on migration patterns and trends to and from the Arab region, and explored its impacts on different migrant groups.

They also discussed promising practices to govern climate-induced migration, and relevant cross-regional collaboration.
