Within the framework of the Capacity Building of Qatari Youth in Social Development Work project, ESCWA has partnered with Nama, the Center for Social Development in Qatar, to empower Qatari youth and increase their participation in society. The aim is to train a generation of young professionals to develop and improve social development work.

A training workshop is being organized to build the capacities of Qatari youth working in social work institutions, assisting them in gaining the skills necessary to implement the highest standards of social development work.

The workshop builds on the "Manual for Developing the Capacities of Institutions and Youth to Enhance the Role and Participation of Youth in Social Work" developed by ESCWA within the framework of the project.

Outcome document

The workshop culminated in a few general recommendations for enhancing youth participation in social work:

  • Widen the scope of training workshops to include more key actors and decision makers within organizations active in social work in Qatar.
  • Delivering a shorter and simplified version of this training to target youth in schools and university to introduce them to concepts of social work.
  • Spread the capacity building programme over a longer duration that allows for practical experience and implementation of concepts and notions within organizations. This allows for better incorporation and mainstreaming of new concepts and ideas into organizations and enables more room for youth to play a more leading role in the field of social work.
