The Index Simulator for Policymakers in the Arab Region (ISPAR) tool, developed by ESCWA, allows users to identify national strengths and weaknesses in achieving gender equality and women's empowerment.
In this context, ESCWA is providing technical support to seven Arab countries, namely Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, the Syrian Arab Republic and Tunisia to address and respond to gender equality gaps using ISPAR. The project consists of three phases:
- Phase I: introducing policymakers to the ISPAR tool to analyse global indicators, consider gender gaps, and identify priority areas.
- Phase II: providing technical support to prepare a policy brief that defines short, medium, and long-term goals and targets to enhance ranks and scores.
- Phase III (voluntary): formulating evidence-based policies to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment.
