In preparation for the review of progress in the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BDPfA) + 30, which will be held in 2024, ESCWA is supporting Arab countries by documenting their progress across five critical areas identified in the 2019 Arab Declaration on Progress in the Implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action 25 years later.

ESCWA is organizing a workshop on the use of the "Index Simulator for Policymakers in the Arab Region" (ISPAR). The tool, developed by ESCWA, enables countries to identify their strengths and weaknesses with regard to gender equality and women's empowerment, and see their rankings across more than 11 indices while comparing them with other countries.

Outcome document

This workshop targeted representatives from national women’s (NWMs) from the Republic of Egypt, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Republic of Lebanon, the Kingdom of Morocco, the State of Palestine and the Republic of Tunisia.

The tool introduced by ESCWA was designed to be interactive and easy to use, with the goal of supporting States through a series of steps that would eventually lead to the development and/or reform of national policies and laws that contribute to enhancing women's economic, social, and political status in the Arab region.

The workshop introduced  participants to the Indices Simulator Tool for Policymakers in the Arab Region (ISPAR). It explained how to use the ISPAR tool to change a country's ranking on global indices related to gender equality. It identified global indicators in various economic and social fields and learn how the enhancement of gender equality indicators may influence development indictors. And, shared each country’s classifications on the main global gender equality indices and their rankings on sub-indicators.
