In support of Government of Iraq efforts to “End poverty in all its forms” and achieving the first goal of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, UNICEF and ESCWA co-organized this national consultation workshop to develop a Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) for Iraq. This workshop is the first step in a partnership aimed at informing national policies with updated in-depth analysis of multidimensional poverty in Iraq and the development of policy tools to position national and subnational planning and budgeting to reduce poverty in all its dimensions.
The workshop objectives are to:
- Introduce national stakeholders to the Multidimensional Poverty methodology, analysis, and policy tools,
- Present the situation of women and children in Iraq (MICS 2018),
- Consult national stakeholders on the methodological choices required to build a policy relevant MPI for Iraq (households and children),
- Identify an actionable road map to link the MPI to national policies and planning and budgeting process.
