The Development Account project on measuring, monitoring and improving performance in regional integration within the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), the Economic Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), and ESCWA regions aims to provide a robust regional integration index to be used by Member States to monitor and evaluate their economic integration performance. Within the framework of the project, ESCWA is organizing a national workshop in Jordan. The session is part of a series of four.
The workshop is a capacity-building activity, covering the use of ESCWA’s System of Indices to Monitor and Evaluate Arab Integration (SIMAEI) performance and the dedicated SIMAEI platform in developing economic integration national plans, the methodology and the features of the SIMAEI platform, as well as Jordan’s needs for specific customization of the tool and the platform.
In the workshop, the beta versions of the Arab Trade Gateway (ATG) and the first release of the Arab Trade Simulation Interface (ATSI)_are being presented and discussed as part of ESCWA’s tools for trade policy analysis that complement SIMAEI.
The workshop enables Jordan to use ESCWA’s trade analysis tools, including SIMAEI, the ATG and ATSI, to monitor and evaluate regional integration schemes and to prepare plausible scenarios for further integration with the rest of the world..
The findings of the National Strategic Plan for the Economic Integration of Jordan carried by ESCWA is also being discussed.
