The joint technical secretariat of the Joint Water-Agriculture Council of the League of Arab States is organizing the fifth meeting of the High-Level Joint Water-Agriculture Technical Committee (HLJTC) on the sidelines of the 2023 Cairo Water Week, with support from ESCWA and the Food and Agriculture Organization Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa.
The objectives of the fifth HLJTC meeting include:
- Following up on the implementation of the priorities identified within the timetable for implementing the Cairo Declaration Action Plan.
- Following up the implementation of the pilot application of guidelines to improve the allocation of water resources for agriculture in a sustainable manner.
- Following up on the implementation of activities related to the use of non-conventional water resources for agriculture in the Arab region.
- Discussing and proposing ways to fill the data gap in the fields of water and agriculture by applying spatial information (remote sensing and geographic data).
The meeting brings together senior officials from the ministries in charge of the water and agriculture sectors in Arab countries, in addition to representatives of international and regional organizations and relevant experts.
