Guide on the Generic Law for official statistics in the Arab countries

The Guide on the Generic Law for Official Statistics in the Arab Countries provides guidelines to develop statistical legislation needed to support the modernization of the statistical systems. The first part presents a brief on the status of laws of official statistics in the Arab region and the dates of their adoption, and emphasizes the importance of modernizing or  adopting new laws of official statistics by Arab countries to keep pace with the work requirements of new developments. The second part presents the basic elements of the Generic Law of Official Statistics. The third part presents explanatory notes on the Generic Law of Official Statistics in order to meet statistical developments to facilitate its wide application across countries. This guide also tackles the latest developments and emerging issues with implications for statistical legislation: such as open data, national and international data exchange, new ways to implement censuses, cooperation with central banks and geospatial data agencies, and government data management.
