World Water Day at ESCWA
Regional launch of the 2019 World Water Development Report: Leave No One Behind

What:    The celebration of World Water Day organized tomorrow by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) as coordinated by United Nations- Water (UN-Water) aims to launch the World Water Development Report (WWDR 2019) focused on ‘Leaving No One Behind’ at the regional level.
 
When:             Friday 22 March 2019 at 10:30hrs.
 
Where:            ESCWA Headquarters, Riad el-Solh Square, Beirut, Lebanon
             
Who:    
  • Ms. Rola Dashti, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ESCWA;
  • Mr. Rick Connor, Editor-in-Chief of the World Water Development Report (WWDR) from the World Water Assessment Programme at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), will launch the report.
Ms. Roula Majdalani, the Director of the Sustainable Development Policies Division of ESCWA will master the ceremony.
 
Participants include experts and senior representatives from relevant national organizations and international ministries.
 
Why:     The report seeks to inform policy and decision-makers how improvements in water resources management and access to water supply and sanitation services are essential to overcoming poverty and addressing various other social and economic inequities.
 
              The theme for World Water Day 2019 is ‘Leaving no one behind,’ which is the central promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDGs) aims to ensure availability and sustainable management of water for all by 2030. By definition, this means leaving no one behind.
 
              The ceremony will also announce the Land and Water Days to be held in Cairo between 31 March and 4 April aimed to review the progress made in addressing water scarcity in the region, foster exchange of knowledge and experience among countries and partners and chart the way forward.
