Within the scope of its project on enhancing resilience and sustainability of agriculture in the Arab region, ESCWA, in collaboration with the Arab Organization for Agriculture Development, organized from October to December national consultation sessions in Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and the Sudan.
The sessions reviewed the concepts of resilience and sustainability and raised awareness on successful experiences and addressed priorities for enhancing the agriculture sector given the challenges of climate change, the unsustainable use of natural resources and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Representatives from relevant ministries and experts agreed on a set of practical recommendations with a focus on the environmental and socioeconomic dimensions of enhancing agriculture resilience, while stressing the role of women and youth in related national activities and projects.
