ESCWA concludes the initiative to promote renewable energy applications in Lebanese rural areas

On 30 November, ESCWA concluded the Sida-funded REGEND initiative by visiting two villages in the Akkar district of Lebanon, which are Chaqdouf and Akkar Al Atika.

During the visits, meetings were conducted with stakeholders to discuss the positive impact of the solar energy projects that ESCWA provided. For instance, despite the power outages, beekeepers were still able to produce honey and women who work in the agriculture sector benefited from courses on marketing, pricing, and accounting.

ESCWA also held a multi-stakeholder forum that paved the way for the establishment of an active network of practitioners within the productive sectors of rural areas. This will strengthen local capacities to increase the uptake of small-scale renewable energy and attract investment.
