On 8 December, ESCWA in cooperation with the Arab Institute for Women (Aiw) at the Lebanese American University (LAU) announced the winners of the regional youth arts competition launched under the “16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence” campaign.
Three winners were announced at a ceremony held at the LAU Beirut campus, featuring Pia Kmeid who ranked first for her poem, "The drought". The event was preceded by a panel discussion on the impact of climate change on the lives of women and girls in the Arab region.
The competition, launched in November, attracted young people from the Arab region, who submitted paintings, photos, videos, songs and poems on the theme chosen to shed light on the links between climate change and violence against women and girls.
