To strengthen the national statistical system in Lebanon, ESCWA and UN-Habitat organized on 13 and 15 May a training on the “SDGs Indicators 11.3.1 and 9.1.1: Earth Observations and Data Science Tools”.
Participants from the Central Administration of Statistics and the Ministry of Public Works in Lebanon learned about the SDG data gaps in the country and how to use earth observations, open data, and data science tools for compiling and analyzing the SDG indicators related to the land consumption rate (11.3.1) and the proportion of the rural population who live within 2 kilometres of an all-season road (9.1.1).
Participants were also trained on using data science and geospatial information systems (GIS), specifically focusing on QGIS, a powerful open-source software platform.
