Climate change has severe and widespread repercussions. With the acceleration of its pace, it may threaten security and peace. The Arab region is in a difficult situation, as it is surrounded by many environmental problems that will be exacerbated by climate change.
Based on the need of policymakers to better understand how climate change might contribute to current or future dynamics of conflict, ESCWA issued a report that provides a conceptual framework for the linkages between the two, with particular attention to the case of the Arab region.
The report also assesses the degree to which quantitative indicators of climate change can be incorporated into quantitative models predicting violent conflict in the Arab region.
