UN Information Centres at UN-ESCWA

Mohamed Moghadam, National Information Officer, UN Information Center (UNIC)-Iran, Kadir Ahmet Parla, National Information Officer, UNIC-Turkey, Abdussalam Sharafuddine, Officer-in-Charge, UNIC Yemen and Nabila Srougi, Officer-in-Charge, UNIC-Beirut met with UN-ESCWA Executive Secretary Bader Omar AlDafa on Thursday 12 March 2009. UNIC representatives had come to Lebanon this week to participate in the training on international executive media and television workshop, held on 9-12 March at the Safir Hotel.

AlDafa discussed with the group the media challenges in the region and the activities UN-ESCWA is undertaking relating to its image. He also explained the work of the Regional Commission and the activities it implements with its member countries.

The workshop was designed and delivered by The Centre for Development Communication, an organization specializing in communication for and about development located in Washington, DC. Its clients include UN agencies, such as the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP), the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), UN Staff College, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the World Bank. Participants in the training were introduced to new exercises that enable them to prepare and conduct media interviews, gain a better understanding of the media perspective and work effectively with media.
