On 16 April 2008, UN-ESCWA Executive Secretary, Bader Omar AlDafa, undertook an official visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain, where he met with a number of senior officials, at the top of whom was Crown Prince and General Commander of Bahrain's Defense Force Sheikh Salman Bin Hamad Bin Issa Al Khalifa.

Talks focused on the many facets of cooperation with UN-ESCWA, as well as advisory and technical services on which UN-ESCWA and the Government of Bahrain collaborated in the past year.

AlDafa also met with Bahraini Foreign Minister, Sheikh Khaled bin Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa, Minister of Electricity, Fahmi Ali Al Jawdar, Minister of Social Development, Dr. Fatima Mohammed Al Balouchi, and Vice Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Women, Hala Mohammed Jaber Al Ansari.

It is worth noting that UN-ESCWA and Bahrain have an ongoing cooperation in power and electricity. Advisory and technical services UN-ESCWA provided to Bahrain in 2007 focused on national accounts, and mainstreaming  gender into national development plans.
