Although 2020 was a milestone year for gender equality, marking 25 years after the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, women remain underrepresented in fields, including research, leadership and entrepreneurship.
On the sidelines of the 6th Annual Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science Technology and Innovation (STI) for the Sustainable Development Goals, ESCWA, in collaboration with different UN entities, held on 5 May a virtual side event on “Gender Equality in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI): Towards an Inclusive STI Ecosystem and Connectivity for All".
Participants presented national experiences and initiatives from different regions in support of the equal participation of women in STI. They also discussed policies that can increase the participation and retention of women in STI.
