"Together for the Empowerment of Women" was the theme of a panel discussion organized by the UN Information Centre in Beirut (UNIC-Beirut) and ESCWA on the occasion of International Women's Day 2015. The panel grouped government officials, celebrities and experts on women issues, and represented an opportunity to initiate debates about women priorities with the media and representatives of various NGOs operating in Lebanon who attended the event.
Speakers at the event were Former Minister Ziyad Baroud who touched on the political resolution for supporting gender equality, Director of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Mira Daher Violides who shed light on the role of women in leadership, Regional Adviser for Gender Equality at the ESCWA Centre for Women Wafaa Dikah Hamze who gave a brief about the role of international frameworks and instruments in advancing gender equality, Actress and Director Nidal El Achkar who focused on culture and art as tools to consecrate women's rights, as well as Producer and Writer Nibal Arakji who spoke about the approach to alter the stereotypic image of women.
The panel, which featured the screening of the UN Secretary-General's video message on the Day and the trailer of a successful Lebanese movie on single, married and divorced women, was moderated by Media Adviser Rabih El Chaer.
