ESCWA held the first meeting in a series of discussions launched to support institutions and development in the occupied Palestinian territory, based on the findings of a research it had conducted to map Israel’s policies and practices and their economic implications.
Seven experts discussed development options and legal steps feasible for Palestinians and key development stakeholders, as well as policies that can support the process of reducing the dependency of the Palestinian economy on Israel. They also discussed the role of international aid support in that regard.
The outcomes of this discussion and other subsequent meetings will be included in a draft policy brief that will be discussed with relevant Palestinian ministries and institutions and development actors to identify priority areas and an action plan.
