On 21 October, ESCWA Executive Secretary Rola Dashti and the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Shraideh signed an agreement in Amman to technically support the Department of Statistics (DoS) in Jordan in improving the national accounts mechanism to strengthen the country's statistical infrastructure.
This should ensure the continuity of statistics production in accordance with international methodologies guidelines and best practices, meet the internal and external needs for data by policymakers and enhance data comparability.
Highlighting the importance of this agreement, Dashti said that the technical support provided by ESCWA will strengthen the statistical infrastructure to achieve the sustainable development goals and improve data quality, with the aim to drive economic growth, create job opportunities for young people, and enhance the contribution of the private sector to the development process.
