Social justice policy gap assessment

Social justice

Economic and social inequalities are rising more than ever with the COVID-19 pandemic. To help address them, ESCWA is developing a tool aimed at assessing social justice gaps in public policies.

In August and September, ESCWA held a series of virtual consultations with Tunisian officials from the Ministry of Social Affairs, with whom it is piloting the development of the tool. It will later be adapted to the needs and contexts of other countries, upon their demand.

The consultations helped to define the priorities criteria and indicators to be included in the tool, which will provide a practical assessment method to be used when reviewing a policy or specific sectoral plan for measuring the extent of its integration of the principles of equality and social justice.
