Within the framework of the Social Justice Policy Dialogue (SJPD) Series, ESCWA and the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI) organized on 20 October the first dialogue entitled: “Social Justice and Food Security: The Right to Food Justice in the Arab Region” to examine the link between food security and social justice.
The dialogue looked into the main challenges faced by vulnerable groups in accessing food, and the type of support they would need. ESCWA highlighted how the different roles of stakeholders should be leveraged to mitigate against future shocks, and pinpointed measures that ensure food availability in an equitable way to all in the short and medium terms.
The SJPD series will engage policymakers from the region, international, regional and national experts as well as research institutes, think tanks and academia in strategic discussions on the salient socioeconomic development trends and issues.
