Renewable energy in Lebanese rural communities

On 6 and 7 April, ESCWA organized two capacity-building workshops in the Akkar Governorate of Lebanon on the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies and applications for rural development, in the context of the Sida-funded REGEND Project.

Participants learned about the current status and outlook of the electricity sector in rural areas in Lebanon; energy efficiency measures in buildings; renewable energy resources, technologies and applications; and their potential for rural development and economic growth.

The workshops also introduced the legal framework for small-scale renewable energy in Lebanon and means to finance small-scale renewable energy projects. These capacity-building activities are aimed at maximizing the benefits of the small-scale renewable energy systems that will soon be installed in Akkar under the REGEND project.
