In recent years, Arab countries have made significant efforts to reform their food systems. However, ongoing economic and financial crises, violent conflicts, social unrest, and climatic shocks pose persistent threats to food security.
The Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture and the Jordanian Food Security Council, in collaboration with ESCWA, the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the World Bank, organized the Regional Forum on Accelerating Food Transformation in the Arab Region, on 30 and 31 October.
The Forum, held in Amman, Jordan, reviewed the current state of food systems in the region and provided guidance on accelerating food system transformation and improving food security and nutrition through good governance, data, financing, technology, and cooperation.
