On 23 September, ESCWA and the Multidimensional Poverty Peer Network (MPPN) gathered global leaders in a UNGA side event to tackle the multidimensional effects of COVID-19 on people living in poverty.

Entitled ‘Envisioning a More Equitable Future: Using Multidimensional Poverty Indices as a Policy Tool’, the event focused on innovations in poverty measurement and reduction. Participants showcased how through collaborations and evidence-based policymaking, leaders can make a difference in envisioning a better and more equal world.

In her remarks, ESCWA Executive Secretary Rola Dashti highlighted the work done by the Commission to reach national poverty reduction targets by developing a Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) Assist Tool that can assist any country in constructing its national MPI framework using advanced diagnostics.
