To develop a comprehensive action plan for the protection and empowerment of the elderly, ESCWA and the Ministry of Welfare and Social Security in the Sudan organized a workshop during which they reviewed the draft National Strategy for Older Persons.
The workshop brought together representatives of governmental institutions and non-governmental organizations, who discussed integrated policies and programmes needed to protect and empower the ageing population.
The National Strategy for Older Persons echoes the recommendations of international conferences to provide older persons with a decent life, while preserving their dignity and rights.
