Given the urgent need to strengthen the overall capacity of national statistical systems to produce detailed, reliable and timely statistics to evaluate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ESCWA organized the sixth meeting of the technical advisory group on demographic and social statistics in Arab countries.
On 3 and 4 July, participants reviewed and discussed the ESCWA work programme on supporting the promotion and modernization of demographic and social statistics in Arab countries, as well as demonstrating the availability of data on basic demographic and social indicators.
They also reconsidered the basic list of relevant sustainable development indicators in Arab countries, discussed tools for collecting data for these indicators and formulated proposed solutions to fill the data gap.
