The COVID-19 pandemic and the historic plunge in oil prices have taken a heavy toll on supply chains and logistics in Kuwait. To address their impact, ESCWA participated in a virtual seminar on 19 May on managing the broken supply chains during COVID-19, chaired by the country’s Supreme Council for Planning and Development.
ESCWA presented on the “Observatory on Border Crossings Status due to COVID 19”, a web-based platform developed by the United Nations regional commissions to inform Governments and the transport industry on the status of border crossings around the world and the restrictive measures adopted by States to prevent the further spread of the virus.
ESCWA also stressed the importance of establishing national trade and transport facilitation committees, which would be a suitable forum for dialogue between Governments and the private sector to explore solutions in times of crises.
