To address complex economic issues facing the region, ESCWA and UNDP, with the support of the UN Development Coordination Office (DCO), launched the UN Regional Economists Network initiative on 18 September at the SDG Summit in New York.

In her remarks, ESCWA Executive Secretary Rola Dashti said the challenges facing the region were multifaceted, ranging from economic disparities to environmental sustainability, and from social inequalities to an ever-evolving global landscape. “Yet, within these challenges there are opportunities for innovation, cooperation, and transformation,” she underlined.

The initiative brings together economists working across the UN system (UNS) in the region, to discuss ways to leverage collaboration in matters of economics and finance. The Network will be a valuable resource to the entire UNS operating in Arab countries.
