Over 40 students will participate in this event, taking the role of representatives of the 18 Member countries of ESCWA as well as observer Non-Governmental Organizations.
Over three working sessions, students participating in “Model ESCWA” will debate common Arab priorities and the implementation and follow-up of the 2030 Agenda. They will also draft a resolution on this matter, to be subsequently submitted to the 29th Ministerial Session of ESCWA, which will be held this coming November. The meeting will conclude with a ceremony to distribute certificates to the participants.
Model United Nations (MUN) is a simulation of the UN General Assembly, Security Council, Economic and Social Council and other UN bodies. Over the past decades, Model UN has covered a wide range of UN Funds, Programmes, Agencies, Departments, Commissions and other bodies.
The Model ESCWA targets university students that are interested in experiencing the inner workings and challenges of the United Nations, in this case with a special focus on the ESCWA system and regional priority agenda items. It will simulate the ESCWA central decision making process, its Ministerial Session, with the aim of having participants agree on a roadmap for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The partner in this initiative, the CCECS, has aimed since its inception in 2008 to develop a culture of service and civic leadership within the AUB community and provide opportunities for university students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds to study and respond to social and civic needs.
Media institutions wishing to assign representatives to cover this ceremony are kindly requested to confirm their attendance on the number below by Friday 9 September in order to facilitate their entrance into the UN House: +961-76-04 64 02
