The first Regional Review of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) in the Arab region was held virtually on 24 and 25 February. Member State representatives and other stakeholders gathered to reflect on progress made in implementing the Compact since its adoption in 2018.

Governments presented key findings from their voluntary GCM review reports, highlighting their experiences, the challenges faced, good practices and lessons learned, as well as next steps at the country level. Key messages and recommendations emanating from the discussions will feed into the 2022 International Migration Review Forum.

The event was co-organized by IOM, ESCWA and LAS, in collaboration with the Regional United Nations Network on Migration in the Arab Region.
