Experts Meet at ESCWA, Discuss Regional Economic Situation and Prospects

On 9 April 2014, ESCWA organized an Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on the Regional Economic Situation and its Prospects at the UN House, Beirut. The meeting, which gathered experts on economic and social issues of the Arab region, aimed at assessing the latest economic situation and prospects of the region as well as pressing issues, such as financing for development in the Arab transition. The meeting also served as part of external peer review process on ESCWA’s preliminary work for its annual publication, The Survey of Economic and Social Developments in the Arab Region. The Survey 2013-2014 addresses the most recent socioeconomic issues in the region, including chapters assessing development financing issue in the context of the Arab transition. Participants in the meeting discussed recent economic and social conditions of the Arab region; the emerging financing for development issues the Arab transition; and the near-future prospects of the region’s socioeconomic development. The regional experts’ opinions will be reflected in ESCWA’s flagship publication “The Survey of Economic and Social Development in the Arab Region” will incorporate in its 2013-2014 edition.
