Evidence-based decision making for urban change

Urban development

Effective use of data is one of the most important means of implementing the New Urban Agenda. Data collection is especially powerful when it is tailored to local contexts, as it lays the foundations for evidence.

In this context, ESCWA and UN-Habitat co-organized a virtual event on “Evidence-based Decision Making for Urban Change”. The event, held on 26 October, showcased the experiences of three cities which strengthened their data monitoring and reporting capacities by issuing Voluntary Local Reviews (VLRs) and by using the Urban Monitoring Framework (UMF).

Experts and representatives from the cities of Amman (Jordan), Agadir (Morocco), and Maseru (Lesotho) addressed ways to engage in VLRs and how those can influence evidence-based decision making.
