As part of the Regional Initiative for Promoting Small-scale Renewable Energy Applications in Rural Areas of the Arab Region (REGEND), ESCWA concluded last week a three-day workshop on “Good food manufacturing and hygiene practices and hygiene requirements for food storage” in Al-Achaari, Maan, Jordan, in partnership with the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) and the Arab Federation for Food Industries (AFFI).
Participants learned about manufacturing dairy and jam products using energy-efficient equipment. They also discussed personal hygiene measures to be implemented in that context and means to ensure food safety and quality.
The workshop, which aimed at building the manufacturing capacities of rural women, also touched on the use of pesticides, production costs accounting, and health requirements for workers in the food sector.
