ESCWA staff transform plastic waste into UN sustainable flag

United Nations flag reusing 14,582 bottle caps

In line with its efforts to advance sustainability in the Arab region, ESCWA raised a sustainable United Nations flag reusing 14,582 bottle caps.

The initiative, based on an idea by Young ESCWA, consisted of collecting white and blue plastic bottle caps over a period of one month then transforming them into a huge UN flag, assembled with the help of Guinness World Record holder Caroline Chaptini, a young Lebanese artist famous for her projects on reducing plastic waste.

The youth staff launched this initiative to stir change in their communities and encourage their peers to reduce, reuse and recycle. The flag was then finalized in a day and a half of passionate collective work.
