ESCWA and Ford Foundation signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a comprehensive National Social Protection and Reforms country profile for Egypt, and to support the establishment of a sustainable mechanism for extending social insurance in the country.
The memorandum comes as part of the efforts of ESCWA to help member States build more comprehensive, adequate and sustainable social protection systems, and develop policies and social protection programmes for everyone including marginalized groups.
Social protection systems can help improve the quality of people’s lives and can enhance their trust in the government. The way they are designed can also influence social cohesion, social justice, and the structure of labour markets.
