To follow up on progress made on women’s issues in the Arab region, the ESCWA Committee on Women held its eleventh session on 10 and 11 October at the UN House in Beirut.
Member State representatives discussed women’s economic empowerment as a catalyst for prosperous economies in the region, and means to boost such empowerment by enacting legal reforms; improving transport systems; addressing sexual harassment; ensuring greater access to land, property and immovable assets; advancing care policies; and by making social protection systems more inclusive.
The Committee on Women monitors developments regarding the status of women, and evaluates indicators to provide integrated policy advice to boost their empowerment.
