On 6 and 7 December, the ESCWA Committee on Transport and Logistics held its 22nd session in Cairo to discuss the developments in the field of transport and logistics in member States, as well as the Impact of COVID-19 on the Belt and Road initiative and the implications for the Arab region.
ESCWA highlighted the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030, which aims to decrease the number of deaths and serious traffic injuries by 2030, and which was drafted with the contribution of ESCWA.
The Committee also held a workshop on the challenges of transitioning to electronic TIR Customs Transit Systems (eTIR) and discussed the findings of a project on sustainable land transport and the most recent developments in the area of road security.
