ESCWA Advisory Committee held its first meeting in 2011 on 24 February at the UN House in Beirut and was attended by chiefs of diplomatic missions of the 14 Member States of the Regional Commission for Western Asia. The meeting was chaired by Under-Secretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Rima Khalaf, who laid out the Commission’s work programme for the biennium 2012-2013.
Participants discussed preparations for the fifth meeting of the Technical Committees, to be held on 6-7 April 2011, and they reviewed ESCWA’s main achievements and projects in 2010, as well as encouraging Arab countries that have not yet joined the Regional Commission to do so.
ESCWA seeks to enhance economic and social development in the countries of the region and to strengthen cooperation, interaction and information-sharing among them.
