Amid the alarming rates of road fatalities, ESCWA Executive Secretary Rola Dashti urged for stronger political commitment to save lives. This call to action came during her participation in the 5th United Nations Partnership Meeting for Road Safety, hosted on 9 December by United Nations Special Envoy for Road Safety Jean Todt.
Dashti underlined the efforts exerted by ESCWA to support member States in developing sustainable strategies and programmes to address road safety in the Arab region.
She added that evidence-based interventions should be implemented through an integrated safe system approach, which recognizes the shared responsibility of the private sector, civil societies, donors, and the UN system.
