On 18 October, a dialogue of the Executive Secretaries of the five regional commissions with the United Nations General Assembly Economic and Financial Committee (Second Committee) was held virtually to focus on “Rising global inequalities: turning promises into action”.
The dialogue aimed at sharing the latest insights and regional perspectives on the economic, social and environmental impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic while raising awareness on innovative thinking and policy responses to build forward better.
In her remarks, ESCWA Executive Secretary Rola Dashti highlighted the work of the Commission in helping member States confront the pandemic, address poverty reduction and inequality, expand their fiscal space, support vulnerable groups, and achieve prosperity and dignity for all by generating knowledge, developing interactive and dynamic policy platforms and scaling-up regional action.
