Within the framework of the “Developing Debt Optimization Strategies to Enhance Fiscal Space in Member States” project, ESCWA and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) organized the first national workshop on debt optimization in Mauritania on 19 and 20 June, in partnership with the Mauritanian Ministry of Finance.
Members of the National Committee on Debt and representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank and other relevant national authorities discussed the mechanisms of debt data reporting and analysis, as well as the different factors which impact the risks and costs of debt and debt service.
They also discussed the tools developed by ESCWA and UNCTAD to improve debt data quality and formulate debt optimization strategies.
