Coordination of international statistical programmes is essential to strengthen the quality, coherence, and governance of international statistics and avoid duplication of work. Therefore, ESCWA and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) joined forces in 2019 to use a common data collection and processing system.
In 2022, the joint team collected 9,208 datasets of detailed trade in goods and services from 163 countries/areas.
Once verified, the information is accessible on the UN Comtrade Database, the largest depository of international trade data. It is also available on the ESCWA External Trade Data Platform for the Arab Region.
