Committee on Social Development in the Arab region

On 22 and 23 September, ESCWA virtually held the 13th session of its Committee on Social Development, focusing on designing and implementing integrated social policies in the Arab region.
 
ESCWA stated that COVID-19 has disrupted an agreed-upon set of national, regional and international priorities and plans for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, due to the shift of priorities to combat this pandemic, and stressed the need to adopt new development models capable of addressing inequalities and social justice issues.
 
Representatives of ESCWA member States and regional and international organizations involved in social development work discussed practical ways for implementing integrated social policies and explored a set of policy tools provided by the Commission that will assist Arab states in their work to enhance regional cooperation on social development issues.
